Eileen Lang's life has wholly been surrounded by the arts and nature. These two serve as the driving forces behind her works. Lang primarily utilizes paper as a backdrop. She is captivated by the way it partners with the pigments. It is unpredictable, yet beautiful, almost like a natural process. The colors seem to dance as they reach their finale. Recently, she has begun experimenting with India and sumi ink on photography paper, taking inspiration from the great suminagashi masters. Exploring their ancient techniques, Lang puts a modern twist on the tradition by applying it to modern papers, specifically photo paper.
